Norbertine Abbey of Our Lady of the tight Lamorville (Meuse)

Nearby Lake Madine or village perched Hattonchâtel, Lamorville commune is located near one of its variations (Deuxnouds-aux-Bois), a Abbey Premonstratensian forgotten history as tourists and for good reason: it is disappearing.

Nestled in a valley hidden from main roads, you have to go up Deuxnouds-aux-Bois and take the street from the tight to get there. It should first be about two kilometers up a small coastline and down the valley in the heart through a piece of forest. There, after a few light bends, the abbey's Waterproof appears in the green pastures as a romantic vision from a dream.
But when we approached the building the dream turns to nightmare as the dilapidated state of all the buildings made it difficult to see.

Founded 900 years ago soon the abbey of the order Premonstratensian, although modest in size at certain times has been a relative development. Thus the original buildings were replaced in the 18th century by a church and a large body of classical building simple and elegant stone which are still visible today. The French Revolution will end the monastic life and gradually the tight Abbey will become a farm. Buildings will be added in the 19th century and at the rear of Abbey. If they have not built the elegant classical rigor they bring undeniable charm to the whole estate.

The abbey was destroyed by fire in 1914 and the interiors of relatively little relevance to the field where some delicate ironwork of the 18th century still decorate some stairs. It said the structure also seems to date from the 18th century.

Until the 1980s, the whole was maintained. Certainly there was no development and use of the church was damaging Shed but the buildings have been generally preserved. Private property belonging to owners resident in Belgium, the abbey was then leased to a farmer.

But since things have deteriorated. The owners no longer got the lease to the farmer was no longer renewed so that the abbey became an undivided abandoned. The peculiarity is that the tight is isolated and has about 100 hectares of land around it and a few dozen hectares fragmented further south. The abbey was abandoned and the land is fallow. Only parties still serve forest to hunt one of the owners. Forgotten

in indifference and non-maintained grounds and non-financial agreement, the Waterproof continues to worsen year by year. His
ironwork were partially looted, roofs emptied to allow the water to infiltrate and now the 19th century buildings that are beginning to collapse, while those of the 18th century still stand as regards the walls but for how long?

No negotiations have resulted with owners who would but today sellers do signs of life for lack of a common understanding. As a result, many projects have been aborted and the situation desperate local politicians like all heritage lovers.

Yet a project is possible. The architectural ensemble is superb, but of reasonable size. The fighters have disappeared inside, a rather free adaptation is then possible in a contemporary way if a project requires. The constraints are limited, it is to keep the walls and the spirit of the site. Similarly, land adjoining farms or leave then imagine various land separation between the abbey and much land.
Relais and Chateaux, arts center, special school (gardens, horticulture ...), home of artists or others ... There are many possible projects.
Some investors were interested in the abbey's tight but the complex legal situation and stopped blocked any project.

What then? The abbey is registered (not listed) under the Historic Monuments. The flexibility is more limited in theory. Side orders of peril action is also complex since it does not threaten other buildings or public roads. However
statutory classification under the Historic Monuments is always possible. This would (if the law is applied) to require owners to carry out works without which the state would realize itself by charging owners.
This approach would aim to preserve buildings or through the action of the State, or precipitate the release of the position under pressure from the public.

The site is of major interest. Lorraine does not play here that its history and heritage but also his image by returning to his qualities regional art and history, where each territory hides his treasures away from standardized landscapes. Heritage Preservation raises all these issues and the Sealed Abbey is one of the sites in Lorraine where the action is urgent.
Policies need to address this situation in order to support the cultural development of Lorraine at a time when the Centre Pompidou today and tomorrow the castle of Luneville allow this change. It is the addition of projects and their links will sit this image regained. The proximity of Lake Madine, Hattonchâtel or Saint-Mihiel is also in this direction.
Abbey's Waterproof is a shared challenge and his backup is inevitable, the sooner the better. After

renaissance castle Homburg-Budange (Lorraine), here is one more challenge for our Lorraine and her heritage ...
